Leigh "Shannon" Stephens

Licensed Professional Counselor, MS, LPC, NCC, CPCS, ACS

Shannon is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor with over 20 years of professional experience. Her therapy style is strongly influenced by cognitive-behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy, but she finds it helpful to adapt counseling approaches to fit the unique needs of clients. When treating PTSD, she typically utilizes the Cognitive Processing Therapy model, which is a cognitive-behavioral based therapy with strong research proving its effectiveness with helping people recover from PTSD.

Faith sensitive counseling is available for those wanting to incorporate Christian religious beliefs into counseling. Shannon primarily treats individual adult or older teen clients. She also enjoys working with engaged couples desiring premarital counseling and uses the PREPARE/ENRICH model. More information about the PREPARE/ENRICH program can be found at https://www.prepare-enrich.com.

Shannon’s primary areas of expertise include treating depression, anxiety, faith/spirituality issues, grief, stress, trauma recovery/PTSD, and sexual abuse. She also works with clients needing  assistance with ADHD,  divorce recovery, self-esteem, codependency, career counseling, educational counseling (i.e., school failure, test anxiety, test/study skills), college decision making, and relationship/family problems (with individuals not couples/families).  With over 18 years of supervision experience and certifications as an Approved Clinical Supervisor with the National Board of Certified Counselors and Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor with LPCA of Georgia, she enjoys providing clinical supervision for those seeking counselor licensing in Georgia.

Prior to her private practice work, Shannon counseled students and employees and coordinated the internship program at Augusta State University's Counseling Center.  She also taught college courses in psychology and freshman orientation/student success while at ASU. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Lander University and her Master of Science degree in clinical psychology from Augusta State University (now Augusta University).
